In Bloom: The 5 Best Autumn Flowers

March 30, 2015

Just because summer is coming to an end doesn’t mean that gardens have to look boring; there are many spectacular autumn-blooming flowers that look absolutely stunning. In fact, there are so many different breeds of plant and flower that bloom throughout the year at various times, there is no valid excuse when it comes to dull, drab gardens! To prove it to you, we have compiled a top 10 of our favourite autumn-blooming flowers...

1.       Dahlia

The dahlia is a bold, statement-making flower and looks utterly stunning in the garden – especially on those cool, bright and sunny mornings. The Dahlia begins to bloom in late summer but really comes into its own during September. They are available in a range of different colours, and are the perfect choice if you want to add a splash of colour to your garden.

 2.       Crocus

The Crocus is perhaps one of the most well-known of the autumn-flowering bulbs. They add a splash of colour and life to the garden, when it is full of dead and dying foliage. Crocuses flourish when planted under trees as they can suffer due to extremely damp weather.

3.       Nerine

The Nerine is a delicate flower and is a beautiful addition to the autumn garden. Pink nerine flowers are striking, especially on those icy mornings. They can bloom throughout September and later on through the year...they have even been known to bloom in November! They are soft, yet strong and can survive through cold weather.

4.       Snow Drop

Ah, the snowdrop is a delicate flower, however when you see streams of snowdrops in your garden it really is a breathtaking sight. Classic, subtle and gorgeous, snowdrops are certainly appealing. Affordable yet fabulously classy, snowdrops are an excellent feature for the garden as they add a tantalisingly relaxing ambience.

5.       Cyclamen Coum

Cyclamen Coum is a unique flower that can flower throughout autumn and is often found blooming in the winter time. This flower thrives in damp soil so even if we have a wet winter, it will look divine. Its petals often have a marbled aesthetic which is soft and incredibly attractive.

Autumn flowers are stunning; they will certainly brighten up the exterior of your home. With the help of flowers your garden can look gorgeous throughout the year, especially if you complete the look with beautiful contemporary garden furniture! So love your garden and keep it looking sensational!
