Here Comes the Sun- Make Your Garden Summer Ready!

May 13, 2015

The summer season is sneaking up on us which means endless BBQs, fun in the sun and relaxing in the warm weather in your garden.

Here at Verdon Grey, we think that your garden should be your own private haven; a place to sit and relax with no distractions and where you can switch off from the world and enjoy the long summer days.

Whatever you plan to do in your garden during the upcoming summer season, we have compiled a small guide to help you prepare your garden area so that you can get the most out of your time spent in your haven!

Weed Out the Competition

No one wants to be lounging in their garden only to spot a pesky weed poking through their patio and immaculate flower beds.

The sooner you are able to tackle this task the better. Put a date in your diary to dedicate solely to making your garden weed-free! It’s not a task anyone enjoys, but in order to keep your garden feeling like a heavenly escape you need to banish those invaders before they ruin the feel-good vibe you are trying to create!

If you are thinking of using weed killer, make sure that you are careful where you place it. We don’t want to get rid of all the beautiful flowers and plants in your garden!

Likewise, if the weeds are poking through your patio, make sure you have removed them all before jet washing... otherwise they may come back with a vengeance!

Power to the Patio

If you have a patio, don’t neglect cleaning it! Spend a good few hours on a dry day jet washing the stone or decking to give it a new lease of life without spending a fortune.

Decking may also require treatment to get it looking extra fresh, but make sure to let your planking dry out before you treat with a new stain or treatment.

Fantastic Furniture

With the rest of your garden looking pretty fabulous, why not treat it to some beautiful garden furniture?

We all know how unpredictable the British weather can be, so we recommend looking into all weather garden furniture which will be able to withstand the ever changing weather, as well as making your garden look fantastic.

From sun loungers to garden sofas; the list of furniture to add to your garden is endless. Even adding a patio heater for when the nights begin to turn chilly is a good investment that can be used all year round!

Love Your Lawn

Your lawn may need a little bit of tender loving care, especially with the erratic weather we have had over the past few months.

Use fertiliser on your grassy areas; working it deep into the roots using a pitchfork. Being sure to only lightly water your lawn, and make sure you allow the fertiliser to get to work by keeping off freshly fertilised grass for a week or so.

Your lawn should be springing back into life in no time!

Delightful Decorations

As your garden is supposed to be your haven, adding a few finishing touches in the form of garden decorations adds a bit of character to your space.

Using solar powered fairy lights in your bushes or along fence panels are a good way to add a magical feel to your garden, as well as being great for the environment.

Investing in an attractive bird feeder will also add a little character, as well as encouraging birds to come into your garden! Who doesn’t like welcoming more wildlife?
