Dramatic Style for Your Garden

Dramatic Style for Your Garden

November 26, 2013

With winter drawing in, now is the perfect time to think about redesigning your garden in time for planting in the spring. With many plants and trees dying back for winter, you will be able to see the bare bones of your garden so that you can create a perfect design around them.

For a striking and dramatic look, consider taking inspiration from the mods of the 1960s. Retro style, with sleek lines and smooth curves, offers an air of sophistication and style, and allows you to choose exactly how much maintenance you want to put into your garden.

Smooth curves are a strong feature in this kind of retro design, and this is something that is very easy to use in garden design. You can use decking with a curved edge, or break up your lawn with a swirl of stone paving to lead up to a central feature.

One of the mainstays of mod design was the use of colour blocking; solid blocks and geometric shapes in black and white with a splash of colour. While black and white may not seem like the most obvious colours to choose for your garden, against an array of luscious greenery they provide a beautiful and powerful contrast. For example, you could combine clean, whitewashed walls with neatly trimmed topiary in elegant black flower pots, a pristine lawn with black decking, and pretty white flowers in the beds.

If black and white are a little too stark for your tastes, the same effect can be achieved with shades of black and grey, such as those used in our Arc dining set which also features the attractive curves of retro design.

Whatever style or theme you choose for your garden, it’s important to consider your garden furniture at the same time as your landscaping and planting, to create a cohesive sense of style. Here at Verdon Grey, we offer a range of hard-wearing luxury garden furniture which can withstand all the vagaries of the British weather, ideal for any garden.
