5 Beautiful Birds to be Found in your Garden this Winter

March 30, 2015

In Britain we’re lucky to have a diverse weather system – although it may not seem it at times! Because of this we have some beautiful garden birds; some are visitors, some are residents all year round. As we have just entered the season of autumn, you may start to see different birds around, and so that you can impress your friends with some knowledge, we’ve composed a list of 5 of some of the most attractive birds to look out for this winter time...

1.       Snow Bunting

The snow bunting is a lovely bird; they have a distinctive white plumage. These quite large birds fly here from Scandinavia and are found particularly on the East coast of England and in Scotland! If you are lucky enough to have a coastal garden you are sure to see them there!

2.       Fieldfare

These big, beautiful thrushes can be seen right across England; they have a distinctively attractive, speckled plumage. This particular species usually leaves us in March, but is here for the entire winter.

3.       Brambling

This cheeky chappy is a Brambling, and is not to be confused with the chaffinch! This is another visitor from Scandinavia, however some travel all the way from Siberia. You can often find these creatures in gardens located near to woodland.

4.       Robin

Ah, the robin is the traditional English winter bird (although they are seen throughout the year). They can be identified by their bright orangey-red breast. This bird loves a thick hedge to hide in and feeds on insects, so why not include a bug hotel in your garden too!

5.       Waxwing

The Waxwing is a handsome fella; they are long thin birds which are just a touch smaller than the starling. These birds are quite rare, however they can be found on the east coast. With black eyes, subtle red plumage and an interesting head dress this bird really is a sight to be seen!

So why not invest in some contemporary garden furniture and sit back and relax in your garden whilst watching these gorgeous winter birds – make yourself a cup of hot chocolate and relax, however you might want to wrap up warm!
